Chiang Mai is a city in mountainous northern Thailand. Founded in 1296, it was capital of the independent Lanna Kingdom until 1558. Its Old City area still retains vestiges of walls and moats from its history as a cultural and religious center.
The bamboo rafts are 1 metre wide and 7 metres long. They are made of 10 bamboo tubes tied together with bamboo strips and rope. They are basic but functional. Water splashes through the gaps so expect to get wet.
Mae Sai Thai is the northernmost district amphoe of Chiang Rai province
in northern Thailand. The town of Mae Sai is a major border crossing
between Thailand and Myanmar.
